Why check your public IP?

Your public IP address is the identifier assigned to your router by your internet provider (ISP). It tells websites where to send the data you request. You may need it to whitelist a corporate server, troubleshoot a network issue, configure a router, or simply verify your VPN is working.

What the tool shows you

Address & geoloc

IPv4 / IPv6, city, country, approximate postal code and timezone detected from your IP.

ISP & ASN

Your internet provider name and ASN network code.

VPN / Proxy detection

A badge shows if your connection goes through a VPN, proxy or Tor.

Your digital fingerprint

Beyond the IP, the tool reveals what websites actually see: OS, browser, screen resolution, CPU cores, RAM, battery state, preferred language, light/dark theme, touch support, cookies, Do Not Track. All of this forms your digital fingerprint and is used by trackers to identify your device.

Public IP vs local IP — don't mix them up:

  • Public IP (shown by this tool): identifies your router to the outside world.
  • Local IP (often 192.168.x.x): identifies your device inside your home wifi.

Privacy

  • No storage: your IP is fetched then displayed, nothing else. Nothing is logged by Outilo.
  • Real time: click "Refresh" to re-run detection (handy after enabling a VPN).
  • One-click copy: perfect for pasting your IP into a support email or a whitelist form.

FAQ

Is it dangerous for my IP to be public?

Not directly. Every website you visit sees this address — it's required for them to send you their pages. However, it can reveal your region and provider. To hide this info, use a VPN.

Why does my IP sometimes change?

Most ISPs use "dynamic" IPs: they may change when you reboot your router or after some time. Some providers offer fixed (static) IPs as an option.

How do I hide my IP address?

Two main options: use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) that encrypts your connection and routes you through a third-party server, or use the Tor network. In both cases, websites only see the intermediate server's IP.

Is IP-based geolocation accurate?

No. It relies on public ISP registries and typically points to your provider's routing hub city, not your exact address. Being off by a few dozen kilometers is normal.

Does Outilo store my IP?

No. The tool displays your IP in your browser and does not store it in our database. Geolocation API calls are made directly from your browser.
