How do you save a tile layout and send it to your tiler?
Keep two files: the PDF to show the plan and the project file to edit it in Outilo. Send your tiler the measurements, tile details and any choices to check. The PDF alone cannot reopen the project in the planner.
Explanation
Use the PDF to show the result
Outilo’s PDF contains plans with measurements, starting-point references and optional cutting sheets. It lets you discuss the same drawing with the supplier or tiler.
Check that the dimensions and units are readable. On a printout, read the written dimensions rather than measuring the drawing with a ruler: printing may have changed its size.
Use the project file to keep working
Its name ends in .outilo-calepinage.json. You do not need to understand that name: it is the file Outilo can open to bring back your work.
Keep it as well as the PDF. You can load it into the planner to change a measurement or try another pattern. You can also send it to someone else to edit their copy. This is not live shared editing: each person works with their own file.
A draft is saved in your browser without an account, but that storage can be cleared. Keep a copy of the project in your own folders.
Make clear which version to use
Add a date or version number. Identify the rooms, exact tile product, tile size, joint widths, laying direction and areas not being tiled. Include ordered quantities, spare tiles and anything still to be confirmed.
If a detail is missing from the PDF, add it to your message. Keep the agreed PDF with its matching project file. After a change, name the new version so nobody uses the old plan by mistake.
Open the tile layout planner and find the final checks in the beginner’s guide.
Concrete example
You send the bathroom PDF and its project file. Your message could say: “Here is the plan to check. The rows line up with the top of the niche. I measured after the wall preparation was finished. I have included spare tiles. We still need to confirm the sides of the shower.”
Once agreed, keep that version and put the earlier attempts aside.
Common mistake
A screenshot helps show a detail but does not replace a plan with measurements or the project file. The tiler still needs to check the floor or walls, waterproofing and installation requirements. The PDF does not check these points.
