Resize or crop an image: what is the difference?
Resizing an image means changing its pixel size without cutting the content. Cropping an image means removing part of the visual to change the frame, visible subject or format.
Explanation
The difference is simple:
Resizing keeps the whole image. You only change its dimensions, for example to turn an oversized photo into a lighter version for the web.
Cropping cuts the image. You remove edges or an unwanted area to create a square, vertical or horizontal format, or to better center the subject.
In practice, crop when the framing is wrong. Resize when the file size or pixel dimensions are not suitable.

Resize = same full image, new dimensions
Crop = cut image, new visible frame
Concrete example
Original image: 3000 × 2000 px.
If you change it to 1500 × 1000 px, you are resizing it: everything remains visible, but the image is smaller.
If you cut the sides to keep a 2000 × 2000 px square, you are cropping it: part of the image disappears.
Common mistake
Common mistake: confusing both actions. If you want to remove an unwanted element, crop the image. If you only want to make it lighter or change its width, resize it.
