Pick a random name from a list in seconds

Need a free online random name picker? Paste your participants, one entry per line, and start the draw. No sign-up is required. For several winners, enable "Remove winner from list after draw" and run successive draws.

How to draw a random winner

  1. Paste your names: add one permitted entry per line.
  2. Check duplicates: a repeated name may count as multiple entries. Remove duplicates first if everyone should have one chance.
  3. Run the draw: select a random entry and view the result.
  4. Pick several winners: use the remove-winner option and draw again, after checking repeated names to prevent the same person from winning twice.
  5. Keep a record: review the local draw history and copy the results if you need them later.

Examples: clubs, classes, contests and tournaments

  • Clubs and groups: pick someone to start or lead an activity.
  • Classrooms: choose a student or presentation order.
  • Tournaments: establish draw order before building your tournament bracket.
  • Giveaways: select from a list of entries already checked for eligibility. Organizers remain responsible for rules and legal compliance.

How random is the selection?

The current picker uses browser-based Math.random() to choose an entry pseudorandomly. This is convenient for everyday draws, but not cryptographically secure and does not produce independent proof of the draw. A person's chance also depends on the number of entries carrying their name. For high-stakes or audited draws, use a properly documented process designed for that purpose.

Read our guide to running a fair random draw for further precautions.

Your list stays in your browser

Under the tool's current design, names and draw history are kept in your browser's local storage (localStorage) without requiring an account. Clearing browser data or using another device may remove them. Copy the results if you need to archive them.

Practical questions

How do I avoid picking the same person twice? Start with one entry per person, enable "Remove winner", and draw again.

Can I use this for an official giveaway? This is a simple random picker. It does not verify eligibility, enforce contest rules or provide cryptographic audit evidence. Check the applicable rules and choose an appropriate process.

FAQ

Can I pick multiple winners?

Yes. Keep the "Remove winner from list after draw" box ticked and click "Pick a winner" again: every draw gives a new name until the list is empty. The history shows the full draw order — perfect for rankings or a passing order.

Is there a participant limit?

No technical limit. You can paste a list of 10 people or 10,000 lines exported from a spreadsheet — the computation stays instant since everything runs directly in your browser.

Is it truly random and fair?

Yes. The tool uses the browser's standard Math.random() function. Every name has the exact same probability of being drawn, with zero bias. For high-stakes contests, take a screenshot of the draw — everything is visible and reproducible.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. Your list, draws and history stay in your browser (localStorage). Nothing is sent to Outilo, nothing is shared with third parties. You can even use the tool offline once the page has loaded.

How can I use it with the tournament generator?

The random picker is perfect for setting the draw order or seeding before building your bracket. Draw names one by one, note the order, then paste it into the tournament generator with the "Shuffle" option unticked to keep your order. You can also use it to decide who starts each match.
