Do dynamic QR codes expire?
The QR pattern itself does not have an expiry date. However, the redirect can stop working if it is scheduled to end, disabled by the service or no longer supported by the plan being used.
Explanation
A printed QR image does not contain a timer that makes it unreadable on a specific date. What can expire is the web service behind the code.
A dynamic QR code depends on a short URL and a redirect server. Depending on the provider, that redirect may be linked to a subscription, quota, chosen end date or simply the continued availability of the service.
You should also separate the redirect from the final destination. A QR code can remain active while pointing to a deleted page or expired domain.
For printed materials designed to last several years, check the provider's retention rules, downgrade behaviour and fallback options.
Concrete example
Your QR code still scans three years after printing, but the final page no longer exists. The QR has not expired; the destination has become invalid.
Common mistake
Permanent QR code can mean different things across providers. Check what is actually guaranteed: the pattern, redirect, destination and account conditions.
