Does scanning a QR code reveal the phone's IP address?
When a QR code opens a web address, the server normally receives a network request that can include the IP address. Whether that address is stored, shortened, hashed or used depends on the service and its configuration.
Explanation
A QR code that opens a URL creates the same type of web communication as entering a link in a browser. The server needs network information in order to respond.
That does not mean every service stores the raw IP address. Some may use it temporarily for security or approximate geolocation, while others truncate, transform or avoid retaining it once aggregated statistics are produced.
An IP address can be personal data under GDPR depending on context. A responsible provider should explain what it processes, why, for how long and whether the data is shared.
When evaluating a dynamic QR service, check its privacy documentation rather than relying on a generic analytics label.
Concrete example
Two services may both display country-level scan analytics while using very different architectures: one may retain detailed logs, while another stores only aggregated results.
Common mistake
An IP address does not provide precise GPS location and does not automatically identify a person by name.
